      I'm really not interested in a war on semantics over a $25 seat clamp.  John pretty clearly expressed an intent to buy. Hell ... this place used to block vulgar language, disallow valuations, require sales threads to be exclusive to Oz and plenty more.  Times change and you just gotta go with the flow

    • Thread Repairs - Fitting A Helicoil.
      Very nicely written, and illustrated, Bradster! If I may add a tip to the installation of the helicoil itself - when inserting it with the funky tang downwards, as you said, begin screwing it in, but don't press down.... kinda gently pull up on it with the tool while turning it. This will help eliminate cross-threading it into the newly cut helicoil-sized thread.

      Not to cast aspersion on what GT Interceptor wrote, but taps are good for cleaning the threads, sometimes TOO good, if you get my drift. A tap, especially if its fresh or sharp, will remove more material than what you want when simply trying to clean out an existing thread. I like to use a thread-chaser so as not to remove too much metal, whenever possible. If that doesn't do the job, then I head for the taps box. A thread-chaser is basically a blunt tap... you can make a cheap/free one by getting a long bolt of the appropriate thread diameter & pitch, and cut 3 longitudinal slots in it, making it kinda look like a tap. Works great for most thread cleaning operations.
