Ha You know how many times I have built mine in my head even written it down on paper ? countless but I will get there in the end. Thats the point Steve build it how you want its a RETRO you dont have to be era correct go with what YOU like..

I agree.. i would say dont fake it, build it for what it is.. A retro so use mostly new school / style parts.

Yeh i agree , all my Mongoose`s are era correct and i was going to use this one as a rider , then i started putting some really nice parts on it and then i saw the frame in person which is flawless and i thought , maybe i wont ride it , then i said stuff it ill ride it .
I like the retro style but new school doesnt really do it for me , i like all the re-releases but overall i don`t think I`ve got the interest in them .
Im ordering a Ruf Neck too i like the retro look and don`t think ill feel as bad as burning around on it as a complete one of my old schools.
Ill see how it turns out. I really appreciate the talk and advice Im finding a whole new world of sizes , threadless , and so forth burhh , learning , just don`t want to buy 3 headsets , three cranks and so forth before i get the right one as i initially did with Old School Stuff

I personally wouldn't put any 'old' bits on it such as the wheels.

It's retro not old school.

im a bit confused where retro stops and old school starts. I cant really distinguish as i was born in 1988 so i wasnt even a swimmer when most of these bikes were around lol , any help would be good thou , thanks steve

I was born in 88 too.

I just wouldn't put genuine old school bits on, I'd put a mix of modern bits on with some retro/new bits.

Retro bits as in the ruff neck stem.

I'd put
Chrome sun envy rims
Profile mini hubs
Redline cranks
S&m bars
Ruff neck stem
Shimano brakes
Supercross/s&m fork

Im in the process of getting one of those Ruf Necks and I`ll be getting redline cranks , The bars i have are no name but i had them lying around. Other parts were laying around too and thought why not use em , ill see how it turns out , thanks again

What kind of Freewheel should i buy? ACS 16T? and is there a certain chain i need i have 1/2 x1/8 currently i was planning on using ,

freewheel- definately White Industries. Cost around $100 but are the best in freewheels.

hey primal , only thing is there bloody blue , ive got one atm , there great , they should just make a silver one , and bring back the red for the 16t

I have a white industries and the engagement is second to none, even better than my profile mini cassette but nothing compares to the sound of the profiles

yeah but once its mounted it's hard to see the colour
