  5. Hi there, finally decided to take the plunge and build a bike. Had a Hanimex back in the late 70's/early 80's but seem to remember more about my mates Redline and Hotfoot than my own bike, even though I lived on the thing. Have had this Redline RL 180 for a little while, but my 6 year old daughter seems to have taken ownership, although she really needs to grow another inch. I guess its late 90's, but don't seem to be able to find out much about it. Doesn't look like the RL 180's on the museum, seems more a mid-90s geometry. I know its not old school, but if anyone knows anything, I'm interested. Chrome's peeling to buggery. Not sure what to do about it? The '85 Hotfoot I just got yesterday. This will be my first build. I know nothing, so it should be fun. I'm guessing the decals aren't original, but I'm confident its a Hotfoot (stamps on dropouts both match up for August 85 Giant). Has the aero tubes - does this make it a Team? Forks don't look right, though. If anyone can fill in the gaps for me I'd appreciate it. I'm thinking I'll go mostly chrome/silver, but with a little bit of anodised orange here and there if I can find things - I'll put a shout-out on the Wanted section. Not sure about seat and grip colour. Will just see how I go. Anyway, looking forward to it. Any advice on the Redline or the forks or whether I've got a Team frame would be great. Cheers, Brett
  6. Hotfoot Freestlyer Frame AND Fork combo. OK folks, a rarer piece in the Hotofoot world..... Confirmed by a few Hotfoot guru's only around 10 of these are known to exist in Australia. Original paint is scratched/scraped and/or lifting from use & neglext. Surface rust in the bare areas, i'm not hiding anything here, it's "as is" for a restore project. Frame also comes wiht original "standing gear-styled" forks, sadly has a stem quill still stuck in the steerer tube... As for the fork thread, i managed to screw on a tange headset cone-nut almost the entire length of the thread, it stiffens at the very bottom but it would never go that far in a bike with the bearing cups/cones taking up the space. The thread has 2-3 firm spots in the top5-10mm, but i only screwed the nut on by hand with a towell without too much effort..... Surprising the thread looks like nothing would ever screw on it, but after the first 10mm the nut then spins freely until reaching the lowest part of the thread. That being said, there's still the issue of removing the stem-quill.....while i'm sure it will pop out with an oxy to give it serious treatment, i would tend to consider getting the steerer tube replaced by a service like "Grip Sport" anyway. Pix tell a whole lot, open to questions via PM if needed. $300. FREE Post Auswide, or Pickup in Doncaster East, Victoria. The End...

  10. Hi peoples, just wanted to say g'day. I just bought a 1985 hotfoot to rebuild that is near on exact as my bmx back in 1985 but I also have a couple of bikes I rescued from the scrap yard that will be builds later on. They are a possible 1st gen mongoose that is nickel plated, a 1999? Haro group 1c, and 2 mid/new school GT and a mongoose sniper. I will add some pics of the rescues tomorrow, cheers all.Troy
  11. Found this on ebay and picked it up pretty cheap. Thought I would use it as a rider while I have some other things on the go. Pretty good condition I think. Pretty cheap parts etc but I dunno Im digging the cheaper bikes a bit these days lol,. Can I give the rims an acid bath ? How do you do an acid bath ??
  12. Hi all, Look what I picked up this week. Nothing too special, but appears to be a pretty original 1986 Hi-Ten Hotfoot. Whilst the seat and Wellgo pedals are old school I'm not sure they are original? Fine rust on the chrome that should clean up easily (except the seat post). The decals and bar pad are showing their age, but it still has the made in 'Taiwan' sticker under the bottom bracket! It's good to see survivors keep turning up. PS, is anyone able to give any info on the GoodYear tyres I picked up at the same time? I think they'd look good on this survivor. http://www.ozbmx.com.au/index.php?showtopic=55181&hl=

  14. Hi team, I have just started a restoration of my old 83 Hotfoot (just posted on Newbies here so check out the photo to see how good the old girl has held up) and I would love a little help on a few things. I want to get a few things ordered and in the mail while I am working on the rest of the bike, but I have come up against a question in relation to tyres. I am pretty sure the old 83's ran standard 20" tyres (the tyres on there are the originals and so perished I can't read any info on them), but what is the go with all the choices in relation to profile - everything from 1.75" to 2.20"? Will all of these fit on my original rims and is it just a matter of choice - or is there more to it? The second thing about DupliColor MetalCast. I was thinking about using it to respray my head bracket after I have stripped it, but not sure if it will look OK. Does anyone have any experience with it? Could I also use it to spray my rims after they have been cleaned up? Here is a pic of the head bracket. Thanks for all the help! Matt (Hotfoot 83 X-Gusset Hi-Ten)
  15. For my first foray into actually restoring a BMX, I picked up this 1985 Hotfoot Hi-Ten from ebay with the intention of making it my station ride/slushpuppy retrieval device. Got it for a steal (no one else wanted it, haha), packed the family into the car and took a day trip to Sydney's Northern Beaches to pick it up. This is the work i'm doing on it, which I hope you find interesting. Sorry that some of the photos are the wrong way around. When we got home I pulled the bugger apart. My fiance then got the ***s and told me to ship it out of the living room. The handlebars, cranks and seat rails all had some rust, so I shoved them in an OA bath. The headtube also had some, so I shoved the front end of it in as well. While that was soaking, I had a crack at the wheels, which had about 15 years worth of grime on them. Using the controversial foil and water method, I got the rear looking pretty shmick, but the front just wouldn't come good. Pulled everything out of the bath, gave it a clean down and put it together with new seat post, spider, Anlun chainwheel, chain and some different pedals. All things considered, I wasn't happy. So I decided I was going to keep going. Main things I wanted to do was: -replace handlebars (I don't dig the standard type and the ones it came had dodgy chrome) -repaint -replace wheels with black tuffs (coaster brake) -new peds -new grips -decals decals decals! Got out the paintstripper... ...and in doing so got a proper view of the stamp Using DupliColour Metalcast rattle cans for the paint job Ground coat: Giving plenty of time between coats now (measured in days), I've put on the first coat of green, and it's looking pretty damn fine. Will update as things progress.
  16. Found this today. Based on the dropouts and gusset I normally would guess its an '84 Hotfoot - though bugger knows which. However... For the life of me I can't find a serial or any other kind of stamp. The welds are also noticeably more shite than the '85 hi-ten I am working on. Anyone got any ideas of what's going on with this?
  17. Anyone have any idea what this is? No serial yet as I haven't picked it up, but if anyone's got any ideas. It cost me next to nothing, and I wanted a rider with a coaster brake for slushpuppy missions to the shops with the young ones. Plus green is my favourite colour... The listing said it was a Hotfoot, but my inclination is to assume that it was a lie. Though you'd think they'd come up with something a bit more adventurous if they were gonna go that. Been looking through old Repco catalogues, but can't really get a sense of it - http://www.bloggingadeadhorse.com/hotfoot6.php
  18. Can anyone identify this ride of mine, or if the parts are original. Found out today wen i tightenedd the back rim that the pegs are used as the nuts. Is this factory and made by who? All info is appreciated Thanks Sorry pic too big to upload will be up as soon as i figure out how
